In a series of coordinated military operations, the Joint Task Force (North East), operating under the banner of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), has reported the elimination of nearly 103 terrorists affiliated with the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The operations, which took place between October 10 and 18, 2026, were characterized by intelligence-led precision air strikes targeting key terrorist positions across the northeastern region of Nigeria.
The military's success was attributed to the strategic use of various assets, including the Nigerian Army Aviation and the Nigerian Army Remotely Piloted Aircraft (NARPAS) Regiment. Mohammed Goni, the spokesperson for OPHK, provided details of the operations in a statement to the press, highlighting the effectiveness of sustained air campaigns in degrading terrorist capabilities.
The operations commenced on October 10 with a series of air strikes around Gudumbali in Guzamala Local Government Area (LGA). Subsequent strikes occurred in Badu, Mairari, and Duste Uku, culminating in a significant operation on October 18 targeting the alternate residence of Abu Saleem, the ISWAP Wali of South Lake Chad, located in the Arina Woje area of Monguno LGA.
The October 18 strike was particularly noteworthy, as it followed extensive intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance efforts. Reports indicate that the operation successfully neutralized Jindullah, a high-ranking ISWAP fighter who served as Abu Saleem’s chief security guard, along with Abul Kissa, a member of the group's Shura Council. The air strike also resulted in the destruction of the targeted structure and critical logistics assets, including nine boat engines and several motorcycles.
On October 13, the military tracked a group of 16 terrorists to a larger gathering of over 100 militants. A precision strike executed from the Guardian air asset reportedly led to the neutralization of approximately 30 terrorists in that operation alone. Collectively, the seven strikes conducted during this period resulted in the reported neutralization of 103 terrorists and the dismantling of several logistics hubs and storage facilities used by ISWAP.
The military emphasized that these operations underscore the importance of coordinated, intelligence-driven air campaigns in disrupting terrorist command structures and logistics networks. The successful execution of these strikes reflects a concerted effort to enhance security in the region and mitigate the threat posed by terrorist groups.
As the operations continue, the military remains committed to maintaining pressure on ISWAP and other extremist factions operating in the northeast, aiming to restore stability and safety to affected communities. The recent successes are seen as a significant step towards achieving these objectives, although challenges remain in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the region.
