Jaguar has officially introduced the 2028 Type 01 electric sedan, marking a significant step in the brand's strategy to rejuvenate its lineup. This model is the first of several upcoming vehicles aimed at reshaping the British automaker's image in the competitive electric vehicle market.
The Type 01 is powered by an impressive trio of electric motors that collectively generate 1,015 horsepower and 1,007 pound-feet of torque. This remarkable output enables the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, positioning it as one of the most powerful offerings in Jaguar's history. Deliveries of the Type 01 are slated to commence in mid-2027, with an anticipated price range between $120,000 and $130,000.
Design is at the forefront of the Type 01's appeal, as the vehicle showcases a striking aesthetic that pays homage to Jaguar's traditional sedan proportions. Its elongated hood, spacious cabin, and distinctive rear end create a visually arresting silhouette that stands out on the road. The design team has emphasized a unique body structure, featuring expansive surfaces that enhance the car's visual width and a rear that utilizes a camera-mirror system instead of traditional windows.
Inside, the Type 01 continues to impress with a focus on modern technology and user experience. The cabin features a high-tech 24-inch OLED touchscreen that operates on Jaguar's latest software, complemented by individual 7-inch screens for rear passengers to control climate and seating settings. This setup is powered by an advanced Nvidia-based architecture, which allows for over-the-air updates and reduces the complexity of wiring.
Despite its impressive technological features, the interior has received mixed reviews regarding space and ergonomics. The design prioritizes aesthetics, resulting in smaller door openings and a somewhat cramped feel for taller passengers. The cabin's layout includes a prominent central spine that, while visually striking, may create a sense of confinement for some occupants.
On the performance front, the Type 01 boasts a split-pack battery system that supports both 400-volt and 800-volt charging options. When connected to a 350-kW DC fast charger, it can achieve a charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes. The vehicle's 118-kWh battery is estimated to provide a range of around 400 miles, although this figure may vary depending on driving conditions.
Jaguar has also incorporated advanced handling features, including standard all-wheel steering and a balanced weight distribution that enhances maneuverability. The suspension system, equipped with air springs and adaptive dampers, aims to deliver a smooth and responsive driving experience.
As Jaguar prepares to launch the Type 01, the company is opening order books, inviting customers to secure their place for this innovative sedan. With its combination of cutting-edge design, powerful performance, and advanced technology, the Type 01 represents a bold new chapter for Jaguar as it seeks to establish itself in the electric vehicle landscape.
