Channing Dungey, the current chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, has officially confirmed her new position within Skydance’s executive leadership team. In a memo distributed to her staff on Tuesday, Dungey outlined her expanded responsibilities and the strategic direction of the company following its recent merger with Paramount.
Dungey, who has been at the helm of Warner Bros. TV Group since early 2021, will now oversee not only the Warner Bros. Discovery U.S. networks but also all of Paramount's Media Networks. This includes well-known channels such as MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, and BET. Her transition into the Skydance structure marks a significant shift in her career and the broader landscape of the television industry.
In her memo, Dungey expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with George Cheeks and JB Perrette, the newly appointed co-chairs of Skydance TV. She emphasized the importance of their combined experience and leadership as they navigate the complexities of the merger. Dungey has a long-standing professional relationship with Perrette, having worked together at Warner Bros. Discovery, and she is familiar with Cheeks due to their history of successful collaborations on various projects.
Dungey acknowledged the achievements of her team, highlighting the studio's impressive track record this year, which includes 13 new series orders and an equal number of renewals. The Warner Bros. Television Group boasts a diverse slate of over 80 titles across more than 20 platforms, showcasing its commitment to producing high-quality content.
While celebrating these successes, Dungey also recognized the challenges that come with such a major transition. She noted that many employees might be experiencing mixed emotions—pride in their accomplishments, excitement about future opportunities, and uncertainty regarding the changes ahead. Dungey reassured her team that she is committed to transparency and will keep them informed throughout the transition process.
In her communication, Dungey emphasized the importance of mental and physical well-being during this period of adjustment. She encouraged staff members to seek support if needed and reminded them of the resources available through the company.
As Dungey steps into her new role, she will be working closely with key figures in the industry, including Matt Thunell, president of Paramount Television Studios, and David Stapf, president of CBS Studios. Their collaboration is expected to enhance the competitive edge of the newly formed Skydance TV, positioning it as a formidable player in the entertainment landscape.
Dungey concluded her memo with a call for unity and collaboration as the team embarks on this new chapter. She expressed her admiration for the dedication and professionalism of her colleagues and her optimism for the future of Warner Bros. Television Group within the Skydance family.
As the industry continues to evolve, Dungey's leadership will be crucial in shaping the direction of the company and ensuring its success in a rapidly changing environment. The coming months will reveal how these changes will impact the organization and its content offerings, but Dungey’s commitment to her team and the vision for the future is clear.
